We are looking for technical translators and proof readers, preferably freelancers, working with source languages German and English, and the target language Danish or Norwegian (mother tongue).
Translations and proofreading will be done using CAT tools (mainly Transit and sometimes SDL Studio). The topics vary, for example machinery, metal working, tools, agriculture, and medical equipment. Lead times are sometimes short and you need to be able to deliver quickly, and without compromising on quality. You may be required to be part of a virtual office, and any experience in project coordination is a plus.
STAR Group was founded over 30 years ago in Switzerland and is today one of the global leading language and information management companies, with offices in 30 countries and around 1000 employees. STAR Group Scandinavia has its head office in Uppsala, Sweden, and is also located in Stockholm and Gothenburg. We are in the exciting phase of building up and consolidating our Scandinavian base of operations in Denmark and Norway, and receive interesting and varied work from leading brand companies in Germany, Italy and other countries. We set high merit on quality, and have processes and software in place to ensure a high level of consistency and efficient terminology handling.
So, who are you that we would be looking to welcome onboard?
We need skilled translators to perform translations from German and English into Danish or Norwegian. We are also looking for people who can both translate and proofread.
A higher-level linguistics education in the source language is a must, and preferably also studies in the target language, which of course is your mother tongue. A university degree in translation is merited, but not demanded; we are open to the fact that there are different ways of attaining the skills and qualifications needed to deliver a good translation. You will be required to perform a test translation.
You must have a high work ethic, be a stickler for quality, and be able to deliver on time. Technical experience and interest are a big plus – it is always easier to translate if you actually understand the topic. You also need to be interested in and capable of learning new knowledge domains quickly. The job is sometimes fast-paced and, although it is a cliché, you need to be flexible and work well under stress.
We are looking to fill the positions during the first quarter of 2019. You can work from home or in an own office location as best suits you. We are looking for candidates for both full-time and part-time assignments, initially as freelancers.
We will be continually reviewing received applications so please do not delay with your application. Please send an email with a personal letter and a CV via the "apply now" button (preferably in English).
Interviews will most likely be held via Skype or similar.
